Music in Nature is still only at the beginning of its journey.
Music in Nature is a small concert initiative led by young musicians in Hobart.
Through these concerts, students share their music with the community while supporting a nominated charity partner.
Music in Nature is a community concert initiative rather than a registered charity.
Each concert supports a nominated charity partner, with ticket revenue contributing to organisations doing important work in our community.
The idea began with two sisters, Min and Fei, young musicians from The Friends’ School in Hobart, who wanted to share their music in a way that could also support others.
With the encouragement of family, teachers and friends, the idea has gradually taken shape, grown into a community concert series.
The first Music in Nature concert is planned for November 2026.
The first concert is expected to take place at the Farrall Centre at The Friends’ School in Hobart, Tasmania.
*Subject to venue availability and school approval.
Performers are young musicians who come together to share their music with the community.
Concert programs may include piano, violin, voice and ensemble performances, depending on the students participating in each event.
Ticket revenue from each concert contributes to the nominated charity partner after essential event costs such as venue hire, insurance and event production.
Merchandise sales help support the ongoing development of the Music in Nature concert series and future student led performances.
Yes. As the project develops, we hope to involve other young musicians who share the spirit of collaboration and community that Music in Nature represents.
Our hope is that Music in Nature will grow slowly and thoughtfully over time.
Concerts will take place when students are ready to share their music with the community.
From time to time Music in Nature will partner with charities working in our community.
Organisations interested in learning more are welcome to get in touch.
As the project develops, there will be opportunities for young musicians, volunteers, and community supporters to become involved.
Those interested in performing, assisting with events, or supporting the project are welcome to get in touch.
For many young musicians, music feels closely connected to imagination and the natural world.
It can evoke images of forests, wind through the leaves, water moving through a creek, or the quiet rhythm of changing seasons.
Even though the concerts take place indoors, the name reflects a simple idea:
music itself is something natural, something people respond to instinctively, almost as we are born with it.
Many young musicians spend much of their time preparing for examinations or competitions.
Music in Nature offers a different experience. These concerts focus on sharing music with an audience in a thoughtful and welcoming setting, where listening, imagination and connection are just as important as technical achievement.
Music has always had the power to bring people together.
By linking each concert with a charity partner, young musicians begin to understand that their music can also contribute to the wider community. In this way, the concerts become not only performances, but also acts of generosity.
Music in Nature is a student led initiative supported by family, teachers and members of the local music community.
While the idea began with Min and Fei, many people have offered encouragement and guidance as the project develops.
Music in Nature is still at a very early stage.
Over time, the hope is that the project will become a small platform where young musicians can share their music, collaborate with one another, and experience how music can bring people together while supporting the wider community.
We hope people feel welcomed, relaxed, and able to simply listen.
Music in Nature concerts are not intended to feel formal or intimidating. Instead, they aim to create a warm atmosphere where people can enjoy music together and experience moments of imagination, reflection and connection.
If audiences leave feeling a little calmer, a little inspired, and reminded that music can bring people together, then the concert has achieved its purpose.
