Music shared. Community supported.
Music in Nature is a small community concert series led by young musicians from The Friends’ School in Hobart.
Each concert supports a nominated charity partner.
Sometimes we continue supporting the same organisation over time, and at other times we partner with different charities working within our community.
Through music, we hope to contribute in a meaningful way: one concert at a time.
Ticket revenue supports the nominated charity partner for each concert after essential event costs such as venue hire, insurance and event production.
Merchandise and donations help sustain the ongoing development of the concert series and future student led performances.
Over time, by supporting different organisations over time, our young musicians come to understand that music can bring people together and care for the wider community.
Our first concert, planned for November 2026, will support Dementia Australia.
Future concerts may continue supporting the same charity or partner with other community organisations.
For our students, these concerts are not only about performing.
They are about understanding how music can support others.
For our audience, it’s an opportunity to enjoy live music while contributing meaningful work within the community.
Music has a unique way of reaching people.
For those living with dementia, it can sometimes awaken memories, emotions and recognition even when words have become difficult. A familiar melody can bring moments of calm, connection and presence.
Supporting Dementia Australia through our first concert is therefore deeply meaningful to us.
Through Music in Nature, young musicians begin to understand that music is not only something to practise or perform.
It can also be something that comforts, connects and cares for others.
